In the last plenary session of the European Parliament, three French MPs
from the National Front submitted a draft-resolution for stopping the
accession negotiations of Albania in the EU.
Taulant Balla, Head of the Delegation at the Association Stabilization Committee between EU and Albania, wrote a letter to the three French European MPs:
“Not being able to address to Albania the problems of religious intolerance and enmity towards the traditions of one civilization, you are trying to hamper integration with less sensible pretexts, such as corruption, economic instability and illegal traffics. Problems that can also be found from Corsica to Sicily, from the Parisian suburbs to the center of Athens”, Balla declared.
“Seeing your pace against the recovery of the European project, I understand that the political games are not an art anymore, but a miscreant profession, even for parties like yours, whose luxury was to never have the chance to exert power and real responsibilities”, Balla writes.
“However, there are games which are dangerous. Although Albania comes from afar, with a painful past, its potentials are untouched: a young population, water and mining assets, stable currency and economic growth. Excluding Albania just to add more points in the long list of manifests for the failure of the future Europe, is a small-minded calculation with maybe a very high price”, Balla declared.
Balla concludes his letter by underlining that generalizing brings nothing good. “The European dream of Albania doesn’t need to be attacked. A friendly advise would be that to catch the laid hand of friendship as a real chance to renew and renovate Europe, and do not use it as an artificial nightmare to scare voters”.
