The President of the left parties at the European Parliament confirmed
their support for Albania’s EU path, after meeting with the Albanian
Vice Leader of the Socialist Parliamentary Group. Giovanni Pitella said
the support comes based on the work done so far by the Rama government
on the economic and social sector, the fight against crime, corruption
and the judiciary, which is key for the accession process even for
Socialist Balla.
Pitella says that the progress reports might be published by early November, after the elections in Tuyrkey. Only after 2019 they will be able to talk about a further enlargement of the Union.
“There will be a progress report for Western Balkan in the weeks to come. It may be in the first days of November. Many years have come and finally there is an open path in which Albania is doing very well, thanks to a strong leadership. We need to support it, so that this objective can become real in 2020. The negotiations are progressing. We hope to reach the key phase in 2019-2020, when the EU enlargement gate will open again. Until 2019 there will be no chance for enlargement”, declared Giovanni Pittella, President of S&D.
“The reason of this visit was to reiterate the support that the S&D of the European Parliament give to the aspiration of Albania and of other Western Balkan countries for EU accession, focusing on Albania, which deserves the accession negotiations thanks to the reforms of the Rama government. The negotiations are not accession, but just a part of the process that is very important for continuing the reforms undertaken by the government. Judiciary reform is the key word for Albania. As the President said, without judiciary reform thee will be no progress in the important process of European integration”, said Taulant Balla, vice chairman of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group.
Balla was invited in the meeting of the Social Democratic group of the European Parliament to talk on behalf of the left from Balkan. He handed over a resume of Albania’s achievements during 2015 in the public order area.
