The initiative of the Albanian Foreign Ministry for having free movement
with only identity cards with the neighboring countries has been
realized by signing this agreement with Montenegro and Macedonia.
The agreements were signed by the Foreign Ministers of Montenegro and Macedonia, who declared that this is an important and very concrete step that increases the movement opportunities between the three countries.
After the respective Parliament signed the agreement, the Albanian, Macedonian and Montenegrin citizens will cross each other’s border only by showing the identity cards.
When the Foreign Minister Edmond Haxhinasto was asked by Top Channel if this initiative could extend with other countries of the region, and why not, even with the EU, he answered:
“Our goal is to continue with such agreements, so that the Albanians can move freely in the region and in the Schengen area. This is a constant purpose of our diplomacy”, Haxhinasto declared.
The Albanian delegation launched this idea while having the regional Presidency of the MARRI regional initiative, by aiming to create a Balkan Schengen that will be realized by signing this agreement with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
