Balkan regional security

The Albanian President, Bujar Nishani, declared that the security threats in our region are minimized, but they are not away.

According to the Albanian President, no country can confront these problems alone, and that’s why he appealed for cooperation in the seventh conference of the Initiative with the Balkan General Staff Commanders.

“The chances for military conflicts in our region have reduced sensibly. The so-called asymmetric dangers, represented by the distribution of mass destruction weapons, the ideological terrorism and cybernetic attacks still remain important challenges for our region and the entire world. These dangers become more tangible when accompanied with international sophisticated crime and illegal traffics of any kind”, Nishani declared.

The Chiefs of Albania, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, Monte Negro, Serbia, Turkey and Romania discussed about finding a common ground for more stability in the region.

This conference started in 2007 and is oriented on concrete talks to preserve security between the countries in the region, and to fight the common dangers such as terrorism and cybernetic attacks.

A few days earlier, the Macedonian Minister of Defense proposed in Tirana the organization of joint military missions outside the region, and offered the Macedonian bases for the training of Albanian soldiers.
