A big poster in Northern Mitrovica shows Donald Trump and a slogan “Serbs are with you”.
The British newspaper “The Guardian” says this problematic area in Balkan will be a headache for Trump.
Serbs were filled with joy by Trump’s victory, not only because he won over the Clintons, who ordered the bombing of Serbia in the late 90s, but also for their hopes in the future.
The Guardian says Balkans may be facing another crisis, with ethnic tensions still present while borders have not been marked yet.
The Guardian mentions the situation created with the train covered in nationalistic slogans, which departed from Belgrade to enter Kosovo, but was stopped outside the border, making Serb President talk about grabbing guns and going to war together with his sons.
As for Macedonia, The Guardian quotes Dana Rohrabacher, leader of the Congressional Committee for Foreign Affairs, who said “Macedonia is not a country. I am sorry, but it is not a country”. The Congressman close to Trump even suggested that Macedonia should be dissolved and be part of the neighboring countries.
The Trump administration has not expressed any crystal clear stance
about Balkan yet, however, the British newspaper notes that the present
tension in Bosnia, now divided into two federal parts; the Montenegrin
government blaming Russian institutions of trying to organize a coup;
will not be an easy task for the new US President to deal with.
