Britain expressed its readiness to double funds for Western Balkan, to better confront with dangers that threaten their progress, especially in the fight against organized crime and drug traffic.

The British Prime Minister, Theresa May, made these comments in London, during the summit between Western Balkan and European leaders.

The Albanian Foreign Minister, Ditmir Bushati, said that the discussion of such matters (security) in this event was a novelty.

This is the fifth high-level meeting of the Berlin Process, created in 2014 with the purpose to deepen the ties between Western Balkan and EU member countries.

London explains that the meeting aims to increase economic stability in the region, reinforce cooperation and security, and facilitate political coordination.

Britain has to leave EU next March, but May insists that the last promises are an indicator of the long-term commitment of the British government in the Balkans.

“History”, she declared, “has shown that a safe Western Balkan makes a stable Europe”.
