Former army general Bajram Begaj was elected president today by the parliament of the Republic of Albania with 78 votes in favor, 4 against and 1 abstention.
Counting the figures, it seems that there is leak of votes from the opposition, as the SP in power hve 74 seats and their ally PSD 3.
Former Chief of General Staff Bajram Begaj will be Ilir Meta’s successor at the helm of the state for the next five years.
Begaj was born on March 20, 1967, in Rrogozhina in central Albania. In 1989 he completed his studies at the University of Tirana, Faculty of Medicine, and was awarded the title of active officer in the specialty “Medicine” in 1998.
Before taking the post of Chief of General Staff, Begaj for a period of three years, has served as Commander of the Doctrine and Training Command.
Begaj, has completed the “Doctorate in the Field of Medicine”, at the Faculty of Medicine and holds the title “Associate Professor” in Medicine.
Begaj has attended various qualifications and specializations in the military and medical field, at home and abroad.
He is married to Armanda Begaj and they have two children.
