Bailiffs clash with tenants

A tense situation went on for hours today between the residents of a building and the bailiffs, who want to remove the tenants.

16 families clashed with the police today, and do not agree to free the building, which according to the police, belongs to another owner.

The tenants say that the building belonged to the Italian marines since WWII and the families occupied the houses right after.

But the Supreme Court has given the property rights to a person who claims to be the owner, and the bailiffs are trying to take the tenants out.

Police been obliged even to shoot in the air. Socialist Party MPs arrived to help the tenants and asked the police information about the situation and violence used against the residents.

The Socialist MP, Sajmir Tahiri, suddenly met with the Police vice director, Erzen Brecani, who was suspended two weeks ago but who has silently returned to his duty recently.

Brecani was suspended for using violence against Top Channel’s cameraman. The Police announced Brecani’s suspension through a press release, but it seems that the suspension was only to close the protest and the debates.

Less than 10 days from the first decision, Brecani returned to duty and clashed once again, this time with opposition MPs.

The Police declared that Brecani returned to duty after the investigations that are being held by the General Police Directory, while the criminal suit against him is still in act.

Despite the official argument, Brecani’s return to duty in such a short and non transparent time will cast serious shadows of doubt on the sincerity of his suspension and the investigations that are being held by the police.

The residents say that they will address to the Prosecution for the violence used, while the Ombudsman has started an inspection.
