Azem Hajdari at Martyrs’ Cemetery

Azem Hajdari will rest in the Martyrs’ Cemetery. His remains were placed
there this Thursday in a ceremony held 15 years after his murder.

His oldest son, Kiri, thanked the thousands of people that were present in this ceremony and expressed his gratitude to everyone that supported Azem in his political career.

“Us, the three children of Azem, I, Azem and Rudina, and through the support of our mother, Fatmira, will try to be altogether as one Azem”, declared Kiri Hajdari.

The Mayor of Tirana declared that everyone owes to Azem Hajdari for the big step that he undertook on December 1990, when he killed fear.

“On that damned day, it wasn’t darkness, but light; it wasn’t the end, but the start of Hajdari’s eternity, for the place that he has deserved and that he will always have in the history of the Albanian democracy. Every free man of this country owes to him at least for the first step that he took in the planet of democracy on December 1991, when he and other students demanded and dictated political pluralism”, Basha declared.

Homage were held at the Palace of Congresses where thousands of citizens came to honor his figure.

Many of them share past memories with him, and present in this homage ceremony was also the Albanian President, Bujar Nishani, the former Prime Minister and historic leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, the United States Ambassador to Tirana, Alexander Arvizu, and the Socialist Movement for Integration leader, Ilir Meta, together with a group of minsiters from the new government, led by the Defense Minister, Mimi Kodheli, Parliament Members of several political forces and representatives of the religious community.

Former President Bamir Topi declared that Hajdari I an example for all young politicians, while Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta declare dthat everyone should work harder to turn Hajdari’s dream into a reality for a European Albania.

“He did not spare his courage and vision by putting everything in danger. We will have to show more wisdom and responsibility, so that his dream and the dream of the December students becomes reality and Albania enters the European Union family”, Meta declared.

“A courageous man without complexes, who knew how to be a brave man but also how to be a diplomat. He will inspire young generations and patriots, especially those who want to enter politics with dignity and not through the labyrinths that politics usually has”, Topi declared.
