Himara citizens protested today in front of the bulldozers brought by the National Inspectorate for Territory Protection.

The authorities are demolishing today the buildings that are an obstacle for the urban requalification of Himara.

Police forces from Vlora and Fier are accompanying the bulldozers during the operation.

Eight buildings were demolished until 11:00, mainly illegal additions to existing buildings, walls, garages and a gas station at the entrance of Himara.

23 buildings will be demolished in Himara to make way for the urban requalification of the city.

This government decision had created tension between Tirana and Greece, since many of these objects are owned by Greek minority residents.

Police say they have taken one person in custody who tried to put a building on fire before it was demolished.
