The Minister of Energy, Damian Gjiknuri, declared that the government
will audit the balances of companies that exploit the oil reserves in
Albania, since he suspects that the reports are inflated to avoid taxes.
“This is the moment to not approve plans blindly, with companies bringing plans that are not based on economic logics, making the profit from those agreements to be postponed for years. We should not allow this, and we should make a detailed audit to all agreements, in order to identify clearly the real expenditures that are directly related to the development of the oil sector”, Gjiknuri declared.
Auditing chrome licenses
Mr.Gjiknuri took advantage from the work meeting at the National Agency of Natural Resources for announcing that there will be interventions even in the Bulqize area.
“The order given by me is that within a short deadline, all dangerous areas of Bulqize should be found, so that no mining activity can happen there and all licenses that operate in that area can be revoked. This is for the safety of miners and their people. It’s not against the chrome industry, which we want to support”, Gjiknuri declared.
Another sector where concessions will be revued is that of the electric energy. Minister Gjiknuri declared that the government might intervene to change the price. Gjiknuri says that the Albanian Power Corporation is obliged to buy expensive electricity from hydropower plants given through concessions.
“Unfortunately, there is a huge problem with the financial situation of this sector, because these investments have not been reflected to the spending. We also have the issue of balance in the energy and the planning of new resources, and what a financial support these will have. Certainly, it will be seen with priority by our government”, Gjiknuri declared.
The energy sector is facing a deep financial crisis, materialized in a key of debts that has included all important companies, especially the Albanian Power Corporation and the CEZ Power Distribution Company.
