Atlantic Council proposes permanent US army in Balkan, based in Kosovo

The European and American passive stances have put Western Balkan in danger, especially after Russia’s past efforts to destroy the European project.

The Atlantic Council, an American forum for international political, business, and intellectual leaders propose that the USA must take steps to bring stability in the region.

Damon Wilson, Deputy Executive President of the Atlantic Council, said for Voice of America that after the coup attempt in Montenegro and the inability of the Bosnian government to function normally, and the slow talks between Prishtina and Belgrade, the time has come for the USA to bring a new engagement in the region.

One of the propositions is to have a permanent American military presence in Southeastern Europe.

“This military presence must go beyond KFOR, to make it clear that we are there”, Damon Wilson declared.

The Council thinks that the Bondsteel base in Kosovo is ideal for this plan, and this command would be able to communicate with other forces in the region, such as Romania, Turkey and Greece, which could become part of the stationed forces in Balkan, which would allow building capacities especially with Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia and Albania.
