The German Minister of Interior, Thomas de Maiziere, asked stronger
measures against the asylum seekers coming from Western Balkan.

In an interview for Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, De Meiziere says that it is a shame for Germany and Europe that 40% of the asylum requests come from Western Balkan countries.

He says they will soon present a law at the Parliament to enlarge the list of safe countries of origin.

“I cannot understand why the German people are not giving asylum to people coming from war zones, but they give it to people from Albania and Kosovo”, De Maiziere declared.

Kosovo, Albania and Montenegro will be listed among the countries of safe origin and will have the asylum requests rejeected.

Der Spiegel says that Berlin has the support of Kosovo, and that Prime Minister Mustafa has responded positively to the interest of European MPs.
