An Albanian family has received media attention in Iceland after their
asylum request was refused. Hasan Telati hast told the Iceland
authorities that he sought asylum because his father was a communist and
people in power had threatened them with their life and with their
homes.

The Icelandic media say that three weeks ago the family had received a negative answer for asylum, which affected their children most of all, who have created friends in the schools they visit. His older daughter says she wants to stay in Iceland because she has her friends there.

The Emigration Department declared that the families cannot receive asylum, since Albania is not considered a dangerous country. But the family say they will appeal the decision.

Their neighbors have good impressions for the family and have signed a petition with 7600 signatures, through which they ask the authorities to allow them there. The family admits their neighbors have helped them with furniture and are showing interest for their procedure.
