A series of international media outlets wrote about the appeal of the
European Union to the Albanian opposition for ending boycott and
participate actively with the judiciary reform, considering it a key
priority as regards Albania’s EU accession efforts.
Washington Post published an article from Associated Press, which reminds that the judiciary reform passed last year, but it is being blocked by opposition’s boycott of the Albanian Parliament, which must create the Vetting Law institutions, the core mechanism for vetting judges and prosecutors.
The opposition claims that these institutions may be subject of manipulation. The EU says that this is not the right way to resolve disagreements. The political debate must be held inside the Parliament, based on democratic reforms, as it was clearly stated by EU High Representative Mogherini and European Commissioner Johannes Hahn.
Basha accused the high-level diplomats this Wednesday of supporting Edi Rama’s plan to manipulate the judiciary. Although he didn’t mention any name, he was clearly addressing his accusations to the EU Ambassador to Tirana, Romana Vlahutin.
