Assad’s Chinese weapons

C.J Chivers is one of the authors of the New York Times article that revealed the connections that caused the Gerdec explosion.

The military analyst of NYT, an investigative journalist of this US
newspaper for many years, this time focused in tracking the weapons used
by the Syrian army in Homs, mentioning even Albania.

Based on
the images that are circulating on the web, he says that the army of
Bashar Al Assad is using 107mm land rockets against residential areas.

The usage of these weapons wouldn’t surprise anyone if we see the Syrian army during the years.

Their presence coincides with the photos, videos and testimonies that are based on the weapons bought from the southern block.

His
question is: “Where do these rockets come from? When and how did they
arrive in Syria? In theory, these rockets have been produced in China.
Does this mean that China sold them to Syria? The answer is
contradictory.

The reasons are simple: “The 107 mm rocket is one
of the most widespread. China has contributed with the 63 model of this
rocket for decades, and has exported it in many countries. This leaves
open the possibility that a third country might had taken these rockets a
long time ago, and might have sold them to Syria, including the rockets
that were launched recently”.

For explaining this traffic, Chivers brings as example the Albanian mechanism.

“We
have documented Chinese ammunition in Afghanistan, which for many years
were held by Albania, which then sold them to arm dealers contracted by
Pentagon. Then they fell on Afghan hands”, the journalists explains.

What
would be interesting to know is if these arms have been given to Syria
25 years ago, or in the last months, after the violent oppression that
is going on in the country?

China is one of the suspected
countries, same as the other countries that have dealt with it.
Everything will be revealed with other facts that must be gathered one
by one.
