Six days before the elections, the United States of America through
their Ambassador are watching the details of the elections very closely.
“This brought Ambassador Arvizu to Vlore, to observe the preparations from terrain. Shpetim Gjika, Mayor of Vlore, guaranteed the Ambassador for the development of a calm process and without incidents.
The ambassador himself declared for the media that he hopes to have no delays in the result. “I was encouraged when I heard Mayor Gjika that the preparations of the elections in Vlore are going very well, not only in the voting process, but also in the ballot counting centers too. I also told Mr.Gjika that we are looking forward to see the election results on time”, Arvizu declared.
Part of the agenda for Mr.Arvizu was an online conversation with the citizens through facebook.
From the beginning of the conversation, the United States Ambassador declared that he knows that some voters are experiencing pressure. But Arvizu thinks that the voters have the power to overcome every threat, regardless of the political affiliation.
“I don’t doubt that there is pressure against the voters, and I’m not speakign about only one side, but the pressure schemes will succeed only if they can threaten voters individually. Voters have the chance to overthrow this threat, regardless from where it comes from. The choice is yours”, Arvizu declared.
One of the questions made was: “What are your expectancies and who do you think that will win these elections?”
“We expect for the electoral process, the voting and the results to be according to the standards of a country that is a NATO member, and a country that aspires to become an European Union member”, Arvizu underlined.
The Ambassador was asked if these elections would produce a rotation or not.
“If the vote is fair and free, as it should be, it is up to the voters to decide if there will be a rotation”, he declared.
The audience also asked the Ambassador about the Central Election Commission.
“We have constantly addressed to the Central Election Commission issue. It is fair to say that we trust that it should be constituted completely. For this to happen, both parties should agree. It is never too late”, Arvizu declared.
Another question made was: “Do you think that the coalition that will lose the elections will admit the loss? Or you think that we will have the same scenario of two years ago?”
“This is 2013. The Albanians deserve elections of international standards. The more these elections reach these standards, the fewer chances are there to have disputable results. I think that people will know this, same as the international community will know”, the Ambassador declared.
This Sunday the Ambassador will visit Tirana by leading a group of observers from the United States Embassy.
