The US Ambassador to Tirana, Alexander Arvizu, declared that the
situation at the Bank of Albania requires an investigation that should
be uninfluenced by politics, and that the new governor should have the
ability and the responsibility to lead this institution.
“The USA would appreciate a depoliticized process. This is important in an investigation case, without injections from politics”.
As for the administration of the Bank of Albania, although the information is still being collected, it is clear that there have been flaws.
These should be addressed as soon as possible, in order to recover the citizens’ trust in the integrity and of the Bank’s operations.
As for the new appointments as governors and as members of the Supervisory Council, it is important to find competent and qualified people who can be able to take responsibility for their actions.
The bank plays a critical role in the stability and economic growth of Albania, and currently there are some recovery signs. We support this, but the Bank needs a normalized operation.
I have heard some speculations about this and I believe that the focus should be on the right person for the job. I must be clear that there are plenty of qualified Albanians.
I could mention six people from the left wing and six from the right wing, who I think would be very able, without mentioning their names.
The question is if the Albanian politics is ready to work together for the country’s interest. If yes, then there are Albanian candidates.
My experience has taught me that some Albanians think that foreigners are more objective to some things that happen here in Albania”, Arvizu declared.
The US Ambassador released these declarations after a meeting with the head of the Pustec commune, where they discussed the disagreements of this community for the territorial reform.
