At a time when the theft of the Bank of Albania has stuck all public and political circles in the country for more than 50 minutes, the American Ambassador Arvizu had a meeting with the Governor.

This was the Ambassador’s comment after the meeting in the premises of the Bank of Albania.

“Stealing from this bank is very serious. It is important to restore the confidence in terms of internal operational side. I want to emphasize that the theft was reported by the bank. We already have an investigation as a criminal matter that is taking place, as it should be, because we are facing a serious issue. Another issue that has surfaced is the management and internal control. This unpleasant incident brings to attention the fact that there should always be an internal control. This bank operates based on Western models, collaborating with other central banks, but this system needs to be improved and it is important for the future. The bank stability is very important internationally, as well as for the country’s economy. We understand people’s anger and they have a right to get angry. This is a natural feeling, but it is important to allow investigation to go on. At the same time the bank, staff and governor be allowed to perform their duties in a professional and independent way,” said Arvizu.

According to Ambassador Arvizu, the Parliament should look at this issue.

“I expect that when I come to Parliament in September, to have a hearing because the citizens have the right to be informed. But, on the other hand, banks must work professionally, independently and in the interest of the country. And it is important for citizens to understand,” Arvizu added further.

Top-Channel asked Ambassador Arvizu whether, in the face of such a situation, Ardian Fullani should continue to work as governor, or leave.

“It’s not for me to decide. It is important that the bank continues to function independently and independently. This is for the best of the country. There are procedures, he is governor of the Bank, there is a board and the Parliament has its role. The message that United States want to send, relates to the importance of stability in the country. We understand people’s frustration, but already have a process, a mechanism that is actually handling criminal investigations, but also internal investigation to strengthen procedures. So people will have confidence and the bank will move forward,” concluded Ambassador Arvizu.

Alexander Arvizu was the first Western diplomat who visited the Bank of Albania, 3 weeks after the theft of 7.1 million dollars. His message was clear: in addition to Prosecution investigation, it belongs to the Parliament to deal with this issue.
