The United States Ambassador to Tirana, Alexander Arvizu, criticized the
Albanian government for what he considered a decreased performance as
regards war against human traffic.
“Our assessment is that during the last year, the performance of the Albanian government in treating the human traffic resulted with a dropping, and Albania fell in what we call the Observation List of Group 2. In the discussions with Mr.Rama, Mr.Meta and other of their main collaborators we have made it clear that we hope to cooperate soon and efficiently with the new government in our efforts to revive some of processes. As regards the United States of America, we will keep creating partnerships with as much institutions as possible, and not only in the traffic area”, Arvizu declared.
He added that traffic is a horrible crime and a very serious problem, but there are other issues too, such as corruption, which should be treated carefully through a cooperation even more active between the police and the prosecution.
“The laws are there and they are very good. There are dedicated people among the police who understand the law and are trying to do their job. The same thing can be said about the prosecutors. The problem is that they don’t cooperate. In fact, I have the impression that sometimes they try to not cooperate. This will be a priority for the United States government as we progress with the new administration here. But my most important message must go to the Prosecution and the police, so that they can cooperate”, Arvizu underlined.
The United States Ambassador gave these declarations during a meeting in Elbasan, with the Mayor of this city, Qazim Sejdini, and with NGOs that operate in this area.
