“Your vote is holy. Vote for the future”. This was the message given by United States and the European Union ambassadors, Alexander
Arvizu and Ettore Sequi, to the Albanian students during a meeting
at the Tirana University auditorium.
The first one to take the word was the United States Ambassador, who besides expressing his desire for a public debate before the elections, underlined the need for a bigger participation in this process.
“The popular participation in the electoral process is key. Your vote is saint and democracy is related to the voting participation”, Arvizu declared.
The United States diplomat invited the students to get informed for the candidates, and be more active in the electoral process, which, according to him, it is a key element in democracy.
“There are many ways today to get information. Different from many years ago, today there are the social networks. The young people must get informed about the candidates that they are voting for. A democracy needs a great number of involved persons to function properly”, Arvizu declared.
“That’s why the election participation should be the widest possible. You need to decide for the future. Don’t allow anyone to take your rights. This country need people to be responsible for every Albanian”, the Ambassador added, expressing his regret for the situation created at the Central Election Commission.
On the same line was Ambassador Sequi, who underlined the need for the Albanian politics to have Europe in their agendas.
Sequi was optimistic about the European future of Albania, underlining that it is necessary for our country to start applying standards similar to those of the member countries.
“The European Union wants the aspiring countries to implement the Copenhagen standards. Albania must apply the same standards as the member countries. The European Union has been close to Albania in the last years. The Union’s funds in Albania reached 530 million EUR. If your really want to be part of Europe in the future, you need to implement its principles”, Sequi declared.
By expressing his pleasure for this conversation, the European diplomat suggested students to get informed about the party programs, so that they can clearly tell their candidates about their problems.
“You need to demand your politicians to put their promises into practice. The political class is not the main responsible for this. Participating in the voting process is very important, but your impact doesn’t end with the vote”, Sequi declared, adding that the passing of the three famous laws doesn’t end the integration process.
