Arvizu: Albania on a crossroad

For the US Ambassador, Alexander Arvizu, Albania has more problems than
only the qualified majority laws. One day before the last Parliamentary
session for the passing of the three drafts set as condition by the EU
for the status, Alexander Arvizu answered to the media interest for the
stalemate created between the parties.

By quoting the declaration of the US State Secretary, Hillary Clinton, during her visit in Tirana, and her Deputy Assistant, Philip Gordon, Arvizu considered Albania in a critical crossroad, the test of which is on the elections 2013.

“The US believes that Albania is on a critical crossroad. Secretary Clinton made it clear that the 2013 elections will be a critical test for Albania. She and all US officials encourage reforms. The main agenda of these reforms includes many points, but two of them are more important. The first are the three draft-laws that you mentioned, but the second element that is the most important, is in fact the result in the war against corruption and a good governing. These go together and cannot be stopped”, Arvizu declared.

The US Diplomat declared that he is in constant contact with the political factor in Tirana for encouraging dialogue. He underlined that one of the biggest problems in Albania is the communication between the political leaders. By avoiding the comment about the invitation of the opposition leader for a meeting, Arvizu underlined the need to increase communication between each other.

“We have many things ahead and we think that the key for good elections would be not through the media, not through declarations while meeting with the Parliamenatry groups, but through calm dialogue and discussion. Both parties say that they want reforms, but a better way is needed to communicate it”, Arvizu declared.

Another important ambassador in Tirana, Ettore Sequi, from the European Comission, who said that the Albanian politics march but don’t move.

“The Council will gather in December, so, there is not much time left. What encourages me is that every Albanian politician says that integration is important and a priority for Albania, but they must progress on this regard. I like music and there’s an opera, Aida, where a soldier starts a trip. He says ‘Let’s go marching’, but without moving from his place. I hope that they will move, because everyone wants to move and make progress”, Sequi declared.
