There can be no art if you don’t have a stable place. This is the argument that artists are raising in defense of the National Theater, as the government is trying to demolish the old building, which was exclusive to the theater, and build a new, higher one, which will have other functionalities as well.
The draft law of the Ministry of Culture says that one part of the new building will be used by private operator. The artists protest this decision, insisting that they will not allow the current building to be demolished.
Ervin Goci, an activist of the civil society, said that artists will write a letter to the Parliament Speaker and to the President of Albania, and they will oppose this corruptive affair and crime, as they call it.
Robert Budina, a producer, said that they will stay inside the theater if the government tries to demolish it and build another without asking the community and without giving details about the project.
