Arrests increase electricity bill payments

On the tenth day of the government operation against the electricity
thefts, the Minister of Energy, Damiani Gjiknuri, says that the
Electricity Company has increased the collection of payment from
businesses and families.
“The payments have increased with 540 million ALL, or 52% more than one week ago. This was seen in the private segment with 281 million ALL, or 61% more, and 258 million ALL or 44% more than one week ago”, Gjiknuri declared.
The Minister says that the police has arrested and reported hundreds of reporters, mainly entrepreneurs and 31 workers of the distribution operator, who have cooperated with the energy thefts. The operation will continue in the second phase, that of inspecting family consumers.
“The Distribution Operator has created a detailed plan with the State Police. We will intervene in every road, neighborhood and area of Albania. We will make verifications and controls to identify the abusers of illegal conncetions. There will be controls for verifying the work done by the Electricity Distribution Operator”, Gjiknuri declared.
As for the opposition, Minister Gjiknuri said that every request for amnesties, or the opposition’s appeals for protests, aim to hamper the energy reform.
“Those who are responsible for bringing the energy situation to this catastrophic point, to a national emergency, as they said yesterday, should stay silent today and support this important operation”, the Minister declared.
