4000 women are diagnosed each year with breast cancer, but the real figures must be much higher.
This is what the Health Minister, Ilir Beqja, declared on the International Conference held on the World Day of Breast Cancer.
“Cancer is the second major cause of deaths in our country, after the cardio-vascular diseases, with 4000-5000 new cases reported each year, according to our statistics system. Another study shows that there are 7000-8000 cases each year. One of our major promises is to build a unique digital health system, through which we will connect the actors of the public and non-public health system, focusing on the citizens and their digital health file”, Beqja declared.
Prime Minister Edi Rama was also invited in this conference. Rama underlined need to increase the population awareness for preventing this disease, informing all women that the threat is constant.
“It is an action that includes a wide specter of political and social actors, in a national and local level. We need an approach that orients the woman health policies, focusing on their social factors that have direct influence in the health of women and that influence diseases directly, which affect the women. Breast cancer is a daily threat. Many women can prevent it through a routine check”, Rama declared.
Oncologist specialists have asked the Albanian government to increase the budget for basic medicaments that treat cancer diseases, and to improve the diagnosing capacities not only in Tirana, but also in regional hospitals.
