Decometal, the group that owns the Bulqize mine through the Albanian
Chrome Company, has not taken a definite decision about the future of
its operations in Albania.

In an interview for the prestigious newspaper, “Metalbulletin”, the Decometal General Director declared that they have three possible options regarding the future of their mines in Albania.

“Albania has traditionally been very important to us. In this moment we have three options. Keep all our activities there, or enter in partnership with another company. The third option is to sell the entire concession”, Cornfeld declared.

According to him, the three options are possible: “We are starting the process and we believe that the start of a new partnership in Albania would make sense. Currently we are negotiating with two companies”, Cornfeld declared, without giving the names.

Top Channel asked the ACR General Director, Roman Lurf, who confirmed that Decometal is reviewing the possibility to bring another private company in the Albanian concession. The Bulqize Concession has a problematic history. The ACR bought it from DARFO in 2006, and they say that they have started the investments that will prolong the mine’s longevity.

According to the concessionary agreement, this process should have been closed since 2009, but the investment program was not realized by DARFO and ACR, even after the deadline was postponed until 2012. Despite the public commitment of the ACR, there is no final decision for the future of the mine. Experts say that the failure to realize the investments put the mine’s future in danger.
