The Spanish ENAGAS joined the Trans-Adriatic pipeline by purchasing 16%
of the shares. The consortium says that the FLUXYS company has increased
its shares from 16% to 19%.
These changes took place after two companies left the project, the French TOTAL and the German EON, which had 10% and 9% of the shares, which were bought by ENAGAS and FLUXYS. The Executive Director, Kjetil Tungland, said that TAP is open to new strategic partners.
“ENAGAS, a big gas company with a long story of important infrastructure investments in Europe and South America, will improve the strategic position of TAP as a European project that diversifies the gas source in European markets”, Tungland declared.
The current TAP shareholders are British Petroleum, SOCAR and Statoil, with 20% of the shares. Fluxys with 19%, Enagas with 16% and AXPO with 5%.
The pipeline that goes through the Albanian territory will transport natural gas from the Shah Deniz 2 fields in Azerbaijan to Europe, and this is seen as a way to reduce the dependence from the Russian gas in European markets.
