Archeologic discoveries in Bishqem, Peqin, are bringing to surface an
important ancient habitat and the remains of a church which may have
existed right when Christianity was being spread in the area.

“We have found the Saint Andrew Cross, the one that the Scottish people turned into a national symbol on their flag”, says professor Albert Riska.

Archaeologist Ylli Cerova said that the first signs of life in this area date in the fourth century before Christ, around the castle which is closely tied to the Via Egnatia. “This is a temple of the Sun, or Helios”, he said.

The discovered church may be the first one of the area. Archaeologists expect to find three others in total.
