The former Minister of Interior, Saimir Tahiri, presented today a document released by the Catania Prosecution, asserting that he was not considered as a person under criminal investigation, at least until October 23rd.
Tahiri’s statement was followed by many other political declarations, one day before the Parliament discusses one report from the Democratic Party, which wants him arrested, and one from the Socialist Party, which would allow everything besides letting their MP getting arrested.
Tonight’s guests on Top Story, Arjan Vasjari, Alfred Lela, Clirim Gjata and Agron Gjekmarkaj discussed the situation.
Gjata considered it a big mistake that this matter was resolved politically. For him, politics should have led the judiciary take the case in question.
“The Commission of Immunity has no competence to review evidence. They cannot take competences from Courts. The second mistake came from Rama, who gave protection and political solution. It should have been left up to Courts. The Prosecution could keep investigating him and make a court request for his arrest. Now our politics made itself competent to take care of judiciary cases”, Gjata declared.
Gjekmarkaj said he was expecting Tahiri to reflect, but the former Interior Minister tried to turn himself into an attacking hero.
“The Prime Minister has changed his stance, and he even used discrimination. Prosecutors feel in the trap of politics. They are under pressure, because politics can leave them without protection. Tahiri turned himself into an attacking hero, while I was waiting some reflection from him. He must have received guarantees from the SP”, Gjekmarkaj declared.
Alfred Lela asid that if Tahiri would have handed over his immunity, “If he had handed over his immunity, here we would have had the Saimir Tahiri of ‘Revival’. He read an old text that we have been hearing for more than 20 years. The text is the same, only the actors have changed”, Lela said.
For Arjan Vasjari, the Prosecution acted prematurely with Tahiri. If the Catania Prosecution would have evidence, they would have taken Tahiri as well for investigation.
“The arrest measure from the Prosecution is not usual in this case. That’s the last mechanism to be used. The Criminal Code has seven measures, and this is the most extreme one. If this Prosecution was certain that there were evidence, they would have not been stopped to take Tahiri under investigation”, Vasjari said.
