“The reaction of the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, after several Turkish citizens were deported from Kosovo, is very concerning and shows his autocracy inside and outside the country.”

This was declared for the Voice of America by Daniel Serwer, scholar at the Center for Transatlantic Relations at the Johns Hopkins University.

“The measures taken by the Turkish regime after the failed coup attempt are concerning for Washington and for everyone else who believes in human rights”, Serwer declared.

As for the circumstances for the deportation, the analyst said that it would be better to wait for the investigations, especially when Prime Minister Haradinaj said he was not aware about what was going on.

Another analyst, Ross Johnson, at the Wilson Center, said that the government of Kosovo did the right thing firing the Minister of Interior and the Secret Service Director for their role in the deportation of the Turkish citizens.

He said that the deportations are illegal. As for the comments of Erdogan, the analyst says that the Turkish President has gone too far.

Erdogan threatened Kosovo Prime Minister Haradinaj that he would pay for defending coup supporters, as Erdogan called them.

Haradinaj responded this Monday, saying that no one can interfere with Kosovo’s internal affairs.
