All fines given from March 1st to August 31st 2013 will be pardoned. The
Ministry of Economic Development planned a special draft that pardons
fines on businesses during the electoral campaign and until the creation
of the new government.
The draft initiated and signed by the Minister of Economic Development, Arben Malaj, will pass next week for approval at the Albanian government, where it will take the legal power.
The Ministry says that this draft law makes justice about the abuses of the tax administration for electoral pressure. Pardoning fines after March 1st was one of the electoral campaign promises of the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama. As the opposition leader, Rama accused the government of using tax personnel to pressure business and that the left government would not recognize any of those fines.
There are no official figures about the total number of fines in the tax administration from March 1st to August 31st. But businesses are expected to be freed of any obligation very soon.
