This Monday’s plenary session lasted only 5 minutes, as it was expected to discuss the most important economic bill of the year, “Budget Project 2024”.

But the opposition deputies gathered the chairs in the lectern again, while they physically clashed with some of the National Guard employees.

Even the increased checks at the entrance of the Assembly did not stop the opposition MPs from disrupting this session as well, with flares lit them at the start of the discussions.

The opposition MPs objected to the placement of the Guard in the Parliament, while former Prime Minister Sali Berisha broadcast live on Facebook: “This is the budget of their biggest theft, the budget of fines against Albanians, of waste, of roads which cost 12 million euro per kilometer, the PPP budget. Today in the parliament there are 1300 guards inside and in the surrounding areas, as well as special police forces. But the opposition will remain unbeaten in defense of the legitimate rights to investigate the thieving governors”.

Amid chaos and majority-opposition debates, the “2024 Budget Project” was approved in principle with 73 votes in favor.

The head of the SP Parliamentary Group in power, Bledi Çuçi, stated outside the Assembly that the chaotic situation in the Assembly is the same scene created by the opposition.

“Same scene. The only new thing is the approval of the largest public budget in the history of 32 years. It is 7 billion euros, which is twice the budget of 2013. Today, when they were supposed to speak, they saw the same scenario. The only thing that should remain in the mind of every Albanian is the budget that we just approved of 400 million euros plus for the salary increases”, said Çuçi.
