In the fields of Divjaka in the south-west of Albania, it is the period of collecting summer agricultural products.
Hundreds of hectares of land are planted with watermelons that are already on the market, but for farmers this year is not so good because according to them the selling price of watermelons in this period is lower than last year.
Currently, a kg of watermelon is being sold for 15 lek, a price which does not justify the costs of care and cltivation. Farmers say that the price should have been at least 30 ALL.
Currently, watermelons are being collected wholesale at the export points, where they go to the Balkan and European countries.
The situation is expected to worsen in the coming days as the production will be higher and if the demand does not increase, this production risks remaining in the field, say disapointed local farmers.
