AMF: No official draft for vehicle insurance

22/04/2014 00:00

After road safety experts criticized a draft law for obligatory
insurance of cars, the Financial Supervision Authority declared that
there is no official draft.

“There is no draft yet. This is a material prepared by the working group at the AMF. The Commission has not passed the structures of the AMF. It is completely different from what we listen being discussed about this law. I have the impression that what is being discussed is just about the propositions of the association”, declared Mati Pepa, vice chairman of the AMF.

Insurance experts have declared that the draft that is being prepared does not defend the consumers interests. But the AMF says that this cannot happen.

“The AMF will never pass any law that damages the consumers’ interests or that is not made according to the European Union directives. For every article there is the European Union directive, which has the goal to defend the consumers’ interests. This law is for consumers”, Pepa declared.

A number of laws are currently being discussed in the Parliament regarding the AMF, recommended by the International Monetary Fund as part of the package of measures for reducing the financial risks and for increasing economy.
