A hearing session was held at the premises of the European Delegation in
Tirana, by invitation of Ambassador Romana Vlahutin, and with the
presence of all EU ambassadors.
By the end of the meeting, Top Channel interviewed some of the ambassadors.
“Certainly, there is progress. But there are many things that still need to be improved”, declared the Italian Ambassador, Massimo Gaiani.
“These elections are better than the past ones. Had a calmer atmosphere. We are waiting for the final OSCE/ODIHR report, which has a wider image of the situation. We are looking forward to this report, because they had more people on terrain”, declared the British Ambassador, Nicholas Cannon.
“We all discussed about the situation. The impressions are positive, because there were improvements. But, as the ODIHR report says, there are still things that need to eb improved”, says the Spanish Silvia Josefina Cortes.
“We talked with the other ambssadors and we think that these elections marked progress when compared to the incidents that we saw in 2011 or 2013. We spoke about several problems. There is always room for improvementsm, since the elections are the key of democracy. The elections went well in general, but certainly, there is room for improvements. We will be here to help you”, said the Greek diplomat, Leonodha Rokanas.
“I followed the elections in Puka, Mat. By what I saw, everything was well organized. I did not notice any problem. I agree with the official declarations made by the EU and OSCE/ODIHR representatives”, declared Antal Heizer, Ambassador of Hungaria.
As for the question if these elections fulfill the Copenhagen criteria, the Italian Ambassador declared that they will have to wait for the ODIHR report before speaking about a complex issue such as the Copenhagen Criteria, but he underlined that there are improvements, that another step was taken in the right direction.
The British Ambassador, Cannon, said that experts are the ones who should speak about this since he visited only 12 ballot stations.
The Hungarian Ambassador declared that compared to the past elections of Albania, these were much better organized, and that the tendency is positive.
