AMA vacancies about to be filled

The Education and Media Commission gave the greenlight to the procedures
for replacing the four vacancies at the Audiovisual Media Authority and
unblocking the stalemate of this institution, which is unable to take
any decision for more than one year.

“The process for replacing the three members and the Directtor of AMA has officially started. The draft-decision has been reviewed. The Commission and Parliament will start the legal procesures for replacing the four vacancies, including the AMA Directtor”, declared the vice chairman of the Commission, Alfred Peza.

Genc Pollo, chairman of this Commission, said that they should approve the opposition’s proposition, which says that the procedures should be open for three vacancies, not four, so that the Director can continue with her mandate.

“The proposition is not approved. I believe that there is no room for any further illusion, since there is no room for a participation of the opposition in this meeting, because there is no sense to continue if chances are that the meeting will vote a farce”, Pollo declared.

This proposition was rejected by the majority. The chairman of the Commission and Democratic Party Parliament Members left the room after this decision.

The meeting was led by the vice chairman of this Commission, Alfred Peza, who voted the majority’s propositions and rejected the report presented by the AMA one month earlier.

After this decision, the procedures for selecting the new four AMA members start immediately, according to the new law. The Parliament’s plenary session will open a vacancy for the AMA leader, by taking the mandate of a resigned member, Artan Zeneli in 2009 and then the complem, complementary mandate of Mesila Dode in 2009.

The complementary mandate of Zeneli, selected in 2007, has ended in 2012. Bushati was elected as director after the complementary mandate of Mesila Dode expired, but without being elected a member of the Parliament, after the end of the complementary mandate taken by Mr.Zeneli, since she was a Director without a member mandate.

Bushati was selected by the right centered majority after she had worked as a legal adviser at the Prime Ministry and Parliament, when these institutions were led by Sali Berisha and Jozefina Topalli.
