In a five year span, Top Channel, other national televisions and the
DigitAlb platform have filed hundreds of complaints at Audiovisual Media
Authority, asking them to intervene agaisnt TV piracy.
Although the law tasked this institution to monitor and punish TV piracy, AMA not only has not received any measure, but they have affected the growth of piracy with their inactivity.
Impunity against cable and analogue TV operators who now broadcast stolen programs have brought a chaotic media market, dishonest competition and economic damages to the state and the honest operators who respect laws and pay every obligation to the state and to the copyright authors, as proven with the documents provided in the complaint addressed to “Sony Pictures”, “Universal pictures”, “Fox” and “Disney Pictures”.
The Vice Chairman of the Media Commission and Education, Alfred Peza, says that this is a huge problem and unresolved by AMA, although this should have been their main priority.
“The problems with the intellectual property and broadcasts that are prepaid and uncontrolled, are very huge problems especially in Albania, where it has not been treated for years by the respective institutions who are tasked to inspect the market’s functionality and prevent piracy”, Peza declared.
AMA has allowed piracy for years, by not delivering in one of its most basic tasks.
“AMA has not functioned properly to stop and fight piracy, which is one of the main tasks of this institution. No one can accept us in the European Union today with this alarming report of illegal broadcasts”, Peza declared.
The for implementation piracy; the lack of government control on this market, which also has unlicensed operators and copyright thefts 247 make one of the conditions that have not been fulfilled by Albania for its European Union path.
