The Convention of Local Elections of the Alliance for European Albania
gathered at the Palace of Congresses the 61 candidates, in a marathon
presentation not only of Edi Rama, Ilir Meta and the traditional allies,
but also of Shpetim Idrizi and Bamir Topi.

Rama declared that on June 21st, every municipality will have the citizens’ spirit as a winner. He listed the achievements of these 18 months in the public order, energy, health, education, employment and other sectors.

The Parliament Speaker and leader of the Socialist Movement for Integration, Ilir Meta, expressed his trust not only a the victory of the Alliance, for European Albania, but also for the women candidates.

“We have shown vision and leadership as regards advance in a very big issue for our society and families, which is the empowering of Albanian women in the political and social life. The June 21st elections are historic in this direction and will be even more, by having these women as leaders of the municipalities”, Meta declared.

Meta accused the Democratic Party of misinterpreting the declarations of the majority, and said that they want to simply use the local government to go against the central government.

“The candidates are lucky, because they have support from the government. This is not a threat or pressure to the voters, but the DP does not have the courage to be sincere with the Albanian citizens and are trying to distort the messages given by the Prime Minister and the other representatives of the majority. The Democratic Party cannot say openly that they want the municipalities to oppose the government. They want them for conflict, for political benefits in the next central elections. Our goal is very simple and clear. We want the municipalities to offer service to our citizens, for their daily problems”, meta declared.

Bamir Topi spoke about a civilian coalition for the cities and for the future of Albania.

“I want to thank Mr.Rama. I am sure it has not been difficult for him, since the development of Albanian cities was an integral part of his vision for Albania. This is what made possible this coalition. Not to make it ideological, but to turn it into a civilian coalition, for the citizens, for the cities and for the future of Albania. I am convinced that by speaking on behalf of the New Democratic Spirit, what has prevailed in my and my friends was not our ideological position, but what concerns us most is the future of our cities”, Topi declared, by saying that the alliance he is part of will do the best to transform the Albanian cities.

The leader of the Party for Justice, Integration and Unity, Shpëtim Idrizi, also expressed his conviction to victory:

“The Albanian citizens have found the right direction with this coalition, but these elections are important because for the first time we have 61 municipalities. I am convinced that with 61 municipalities on the right direction, with the Alliance of European Albania, we will achieve spectacular victories to give to the Albanian people the right path towards Europe”, Idrizi declared.
