While Albania is waiting for EU countries to vote about the accession negotiations, the leaders of religious communities united and wrote a letter addressed to German Chancellor Merkel and French President Macron, asking them to give green light for Albania’s integration.
“On this important moment, we want to underline once again what we expressed recently, in our joint declaration of April 21st, 2018. Albanians are part of Europe, part of a history that comes from the origin of Europe. Its roots are thousands of years old. We are convinced that the path towards the EU represents the old desire of our people, the values of a free society where anyone can exert rights, including the religious ones. We are grateful to God for the fact that the history of the Albanian people has shown a long and stable harmony between religions”, the letter says.
The letter is signed by the leader of the Muslim Community, Skender Brucaj; the Archbishop of Tirana, Durres and all of Albania for the Albanian Autocephalous Orthodox Church, Archbishop (Prof. Dr) Anastasios of Tirana-Durrës and all Albania (Orthodox Autocephalous Church of Albania), Msgr. Gjergj Meta, General Secretary of Albanian Bishops’ Conference (Catholic Church), H. Dede Edmond Brahimaj, World Bektashi Headquarters, Pastor Ylli Doçi, Chairman of the Evangelical Alliance of Albania,
