Albania’s gas network

The Albanian government has already selected the company that will build
the gas distribution network in Albania after the construction of the
Trans Adriatic Pipeline.

The vice president of the Azerbaijani state owned gas company, Elshad Nasirov, declared for the media that there is an agreement between this company and the Albanian government to build the gas network in our country.

“There is a preliminary agreement between our company and the Albanian government, in case the Trans Adriatic Pipeline would be selected. We will work to build a gas distribution network in Albania”, Nasirov declared.

The second person in charge of the Azerbaijani state owned gas company declared that besides the construction of the gas distribution network, their company will have the right to use the gas deposits in our country.

Albania does not use natural gas and doesn’t have a distribution network, so it will be built from scratch. Nasirov declared that there are other companies interested in building a gas infrastructure in Albania.

But the Azerbaijani seem to be the main pretender even for another reason. This company is one of the three shareholders of the Shah Deniz gas field, the source that will supply with gas the Trans Adriatic Pipeline. Their support for TAP was definitive for its approval, so they are favorites in the construction, as part of a compromise that seems to have been decided a long time ago, when Albania was lobbying for the success of TAP.
