The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati, expressed the official stance of Albania regarding the Serbia-Kosovo border correction.
In an interview for “Panorama”, Bushati said that the status of Kosovo is a regional and Europan matter, not just a bilateral issue.
“There is no reason to preach the building of a new international order, when the difficult achievements in our region where made possible by this international order. We don’t have to think how Serbia will be compensated in exchange of their recognition of Kosovo, or how it will be rehabilitated in the region. For Albania and Kosovo’s allies, the status of Kosovo is a closed matter. Its independence is irreversible. This is why we need to be focused on the basic principles that guarantee peace and democratic stability in the region”, Bushati said.
When asked about Albania’s stance on the proposal for territory exchange, Bushati said that it wouldn’t be realistic to base such delicate matters on assumptions.
“Albania’s stance for Kosovo and the status of the Albanian people in the region, Albania’s stance is bound by the Constitution, and it is that of political unity. We encourage the dialogue process and reaching a legally bound agreement”, Bushati said.
