Thre candidates from Albania in the race to replace Judge Ledi Bianku for a new 9 year term in the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg have passed the first phase after getting the approval of the counceling experts’ panel fulfilling the Council of Europe criteria.
Aleksandër Muskaj, Aurela Anastasi and Sokol Berberi will be interviewd on Aoril 6th from the selecting comitee, made of 22 MPs from member countries of the Council of Europe, headed by the Latvian socialist Boriss Cilevis. Then the Pariamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will vote on April 25th for the new Judge who will represent our country in Strasbourg until 2026.
The winning candidate should get an absolute majority in the first round, but if none wins, a second round of voting will occur one day later, between the two mos voted candidates.
Last October thre preious candidates presented by the Albanian Government, Sokol Berberi, Ina Rama and Gent Ibrahimi, were refused because their selection procedures were not made according to required standards, thus leaving our country without representation in Strasbourg since January 2017.
