According to a poll conducted by the European Commission, Albanians stay longer at their jobs than other European citizens, up to 48 hours a week, followed by Serbs and Turks with 47 hours.
In more developed countries such as Germany and Netherlands, citizens work 40 hours in average.
Kole Nikolla, Chairman of the Albanian Syndicates said that there is a connection between productivity and pay.
“Albanians work longer houers, but the productivity is lower. Of course, payments are lower. It’s a vicious circle:, he says.
According to Nikolla, state institutions must inspect the market and verify syndicates and their roles, since workers in Albania are still unrepresented.
“We don’t have basic laws, such as collective contracts, which are basic for discussing working hours, perks, better conditions, productivity, etc”, he said.
