Albanians are the most politicized people in Europe, based on a poll
made by the World Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and
Development, which have questioned 51.000 families in 29 countries.

The poll shows that 21% of the Albanian population is member of some political party. According to the EBRD, 15% of Albanian women and 27% of Albanian men are members of a political party.

This is the highest number not only in Europe, but also among similar economies under development. After Albania, Mongolia is the second most politicized country, with 17% of the population being member of political parties.

Tajikistan and Montenegro follow with 14%, while in the EU, the average figure is 7%, three times less than in Albania.

The study notes the poorer a country, the more politicized its people are. Their membership in political parties may go beyond political passion. One of the main causes is that by having a party membership in their pocket, they have more chances for a job or for a better economic future.
