Albanians return to Medvegja

The Jaha family has returned in an almost hopeless mountain peak to find
survival. After the war in Kosovo, many Albanians were transferred from
Medvegja, one of the three areas where Albanians in Serbia are native.

The Jaha family has many children, some of them in Kosovo, tired of living as refugees and without a future. The village was their hope, and this old house, built as it was made of mud.

“We lived in Prishtina and we returned. We want to work and do whatever we can”, declared Abedin Jaha, a man who has returned to Medvegja.

Some people from the diaspora tried helping them with all they could. Now they have drinking water and animals to survive. The Tupalla village used to have many citizens, but houses and people are like hiding from each other today.

But for the Albanians, living in their land is better.

“People are always better in their houses. I’d better stay home than go looking for work where there isn’t any”, declared Azize Gashi.
