“Albanians prepared for candidate status”

After a meeting with the Interior Minister, Saimir Tahiri, the General
Director for European Enlargement sent a clear message to the Albanian
political leaders, by reminding them that their national objective
should be the EU candidate status.

“This means improving the living standards and welfare, and we have understood that this is what the Albanian people expects from their leaders. From these efforts will depend many other things, leaving any other thing aside. We should leave every other situation aside to guarantee that the European future of Albania is a national objective”, declared Christian Danielsson.

During the press conference, the Interior Minister declared that the government has started the right reforms and they have fought corruption and organized crime.

“I informed the European official about the police results, since the moment we came in power. These resutls give a motive to hope that the country is following the right tarck, and that the fight against organized crime and corruption is also on the right track. We are doing everything we can to guarantee the maximal security that the Albanian citizens want”, Tahiri declared.

Danielsson spoke about the report that they will deliver after one week, regarding the progress made by Albania in the past six months.

“This meeting was important by also keeping in mind the report that we will hand over the next week. Certainly, this is about the continuity and stability of the fight against organized crime, corruption and the judiciary. This will be the basis of discussions with the member countries in June, as regards the candidate status for Albania, allow me to underline that the fight against organized crime and corruption are essential requests for Albania’s progress and European Union integration”, Danielsson declared.

When asked about the opposition’s request, Danielsson preferred to give no comments.
