Italy has been facing economic recession for years, but the Albanian
immigrants seem to have resisted to the crisis. A specialized
institution, Foundation Leone Moresa, reported that the Albanian
immigrants in Italy have declared 3.2 billion EUR of revenues.

This would be 32% of the GDP in Albania, and,  compared to the past year, the revenues of the Albanian citizens have increased with 2.8%.

Economically, Albanians are the second most powerful community in Italy, after Romanians, who declared 6.4 billion EUR of revenues. But per capita, Albanians have the highest revenues.

The study comes in a time of tension within the EU for the immigration cause. It shows that immigrants are an important economic source for the host country. They pay 16.5 billion EUR in taxes while public spending for immigrants is 12.6 billion EUR.

Greece, the other side of the medal

While Albanians in Italy have resisted to the crisis, those in Greece have not been so lucky. The Bank of Albania say that their remittances have dropped three fold.
