Four days ago, the Dutch government officialized their stance as regards the EU accession negotiations with Albania.
In a letter sent to the Parliament, the Dutch Foreign Mission declared that this step was premature for Albania.
Official Tirana is now responding to the Dutch government through a letter signed by the female ministers of our government, which are a majority, after the UN recognized Albania among the five countries in the world with the most gender-balanced cabinets.
In this letter, the eight Ministers underline that in Albania there is an admiration for the Netherlands, as a people with great traditions and with a good record of social tolerance and political courage.
Albania, the letter underlines, has had to go through five long and dark decades of isolation, just like North Korea. But despite the difficulties, there has been great progress and the country is changing each day for the better. But everyone is aware that there is still more to do.
The letter then focuses on the close cooperation that Albania has had so far with the Netherlands in the fight against organized crime, underlining that this is not something that can be done alone.
“Our failure with the EU accession negotiations is the biggest prize for these dark and dangerous forces. We don’t want you to change your views, we only want you to join the other countries of Europe and allow us to take these efforts into another level”, the letter concludes.
