The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, visited Belgrade in a time when
the tension between both countries reached a new peak for the new
history.
After the drone in the stadium, everything became harder, especially for the Serbs who don’t know much about Albania, and everything turned into a media conflict.
Although the economic relations are not that bad, the public opinion often doesn’t know how to read between the lines. Historians think that the media have used different descriptions about the Albanian people during the history, despite being neighbors.
Sasha Mishiç, professor of modern political history says that “After the First World War there have been two different descriptions about Albania. One when relations were good and with friendly policies, when the Albanian people were considered Balkanian, sons of eagles and heroes like Scanderbeg, and other versions that changed with the politic”.
Goran Milletic, known activist in Serbia, says that many chances were lost and poltiics can do more. Some studies show that 40% of the Serbian people don’t want Albanians as neighbors; 50% don’t want them as superiors t work and 70% would never get married to Albanians.
“Things were moving to the right direction, although slowly. The dialogue with Kosovo has started and there have been changes even in Presheva and Bujanoc. Everything that has been positive has been ruined within one night. We are on the beginning once again, and the situation has turned back to the situation of Kosovo after 1999. The public’s reaction is not acceptable yet”, Milletic explained.
