Albanian returned from Syria reveals how he was deceived by jihadists

Ermal Doçi, 25, stayed in Syria for four months. A phone conversation
recorded between the self-declared imams Bujar Hysi and Almir Daci,
shows how they describe him as “a lion prepared to fight”.

The boy, now on the witness list, denies having fought in Syria and confirmed he had been lied to, he had been promised to go for studies in Damask.

Ermal Doçi:   I don’t remember anything
Top Channel: Did you have a gun with you?
Ermal Doçi:   No, I didn’t have any gun.
Top Channel: Did you get physical training?
Ermal Doçi:   No.
Top Channel: Why did you come back?
Ermal Doçi:   For my own personal reasons.
Top Channel: Did you meet any other of these Albanians there?
Ermal Doçi:   I don’t remember.
Top Channel: Did you meet Almir Daci?
Ermal Doçi:   Yeah, I think. Just for a moment. I don’t remember having seen him for longer.
Top Channel: What itinerary did you chose to go there from Albania?
Ermal Doçi:   Through the airport. I flew to Istanbul, from there to Gaziantep, and that’s where I crossed to Syria.
Top Channel: Who took you there?
Ermal Doçi:   I was on my own. I had some friends who went there for studies and I got help from them. But after the turmoil it was unable to continue studies so I turned back.
Top Channel: What about the other Albanians who were there? What was Almir Daci doing there?
Ermal Doçi:   I don’t know.
Top Channel: Did you tell the Court you saw Almir carrying guns, together with other people?
Ermal Doçi:   Yes, I saw him armed because everybody there was armed.
Top Channel: They were fighting?
Ermal Doçi:   I did not see fighting.
